Brachioplasty
Brachioplasty
Large amounts of weight loss both can cause the skin on your arms to sag. Such sagging restricts your life and reduces mobility.
Brachioplasty is the removal of excess skin on the arm by cutting it parallel to the arm. When liposuction is applied together, excess fat can be removed from the body. The degree of need is quite important as the scars will remain on the inside of the arms after the surgery.
Why Might I Need Surgery?
If:
- You have a large amount of saggy, excess skin after extreme weight loss
- Your arms are disproportionate
- You have difficulty when changing clothes, or playing sports due to excess skin on your arms (thus burdening your neck)…
Then you may need this surgery – or else you may refrain from joining social activities and eventually isolate yourself! The period after losing a large amount of weight can be annoying.

While Considering A Brachioplasty
You first need to think about how much your excess skin restricts your life. You also have to be aware that this surgery will scar your arms afterwards. Thus, before you make your final decision, you must ask yourself: “Do I want to go continue living with my very deformed and sagging skin?” or “Do I want to continue my life with scarred but tight, stretched, and smooth arms?”
Some patients don’t want scars. In that case, then this surgery isn’t right for you because it isn’t scar-free.
Most of people who’ve already undergone post-bariatric and post-obesity surgery are also happy with the results and relief that the brachioplasty offers them.
Can I Have Brachioplasty And Other Surgeries Done At The Same Time?
Yes, this operation can be planned with additional procedures if your general health status and examinations allow.
Dr. Ozsular can decide for the operations to be performed on other parts of your body after he examines you.
Are There Any Scars After Brachioplasty?
Yes it does – starting from your armpit down to your elbow. The scars are on the inside of the arms and won’t be visible if when your arms hang by your sides, but they will be visible along the sides when you raise them or wear short-sleeved shirts in the summer.
The anti-scar creams should be used regularly after the surgery and as prescribed by your doctor. Anti-scar creams will allow the scars to recover better.
Scar healing completely depends on the person. Some people when healing develop no scars at all, post-surgery scars become indistinct. Scars of some patients heal significantly. In others, scars may swell and then heal. This completely depends on the structure of the person.
